Who needs a vignette?
Every vehicle up to 3.5 t — cars, campervans up to 3.5 t and motorcycles. It is required on all tolled motorways and expressways (M roads) in Hungary. The obligation applies from the first slip road, even in pure transit.

Where it is valid — and where not
It is required on all tolled motorways and expressways (M roads) in Hungary. Some ring sections around Budapest are toll-free. Besides the national vignette there are county vignettes for single regions.

Enforcement and fines
Checks are automatic by camera and by mobile teams. Without a valid e-matrica a surcharge is due that is far above the vignette price and increases if paid late.
Common mistakes
Most problems arise before the purchase:
- A typo in the plate — the vignette is valid only for exactly that plate
- Wrong country of registration selected
- Driving on without a vignette, planning to buy “later”
- Assuming special toll sections or tunnels are included
Which category? D1, D1M, D2 or U
D1: cars up to 3.5 t with at most 7 seats. D1M: motorcycles. D2: vehicles with more than 7 seats, campervans and vans up to 3.5 t. U: trailers behind D2 vehicles. The registration document decides — a seven-seater SUV is D2, not D1. The wrong category counts as no vignette at a check.
The 60-minute grace period
If you enter the motorway without a vignette, you have 60 minutes from the first camera to buy one. It applies to the first entry and is not a payment deferral: exit and re-enter and the surcharge is due. Order before the border — Nickelsdorf/Hegyeshalom, Rajka, Nădlac, Röszke, Letenye.

From when is the vignette valid?
From the chosen start date, once the operator has confirmed the registration — usually within 15 minutes of ordering.
Do I have to stick anything on the windscreen?
No. The vignette is digital and recognised by the plate. Keep the email confirmation.
What if there is a mistake in the plate?
The vignette is linked to the plate and cannot be changed afterwards. We check the format before purchase and show the plate once more before payment. Contact us immediately if you notice an error.
Does it cover campervans and trailers?
Campervans up to 3.5 t, yes. A trailer needs no vignette of its own — it applies to the towing vehicle.
Can I transfer the vignette to another vehicle?
No. It is valid only for the plate given at the time of ordering.
Can I cancel or get a refund?
Before registration with the operator: yes, in full. Afterwards the vignette is valid and a refund is no longer possible (Section 356 BGB). Details on the “Refunds & cancellation” page.
I mistyped my plate — what now?
Write to us immediately with your order number. As long as the vignette is not yet registered, we correct it free of charge.
I have a seven-seater — which category?
D2. The number of seats in the registration document decides, not the size of the car.
Is the M0 ring road around Budapest free?
Parts of the M0 are toll-free and signposted; other sections need the vignette. When in doubt: buy the vignette.
