How the Hungarian vignette works

The local term is e-matrica. Hungary switched to an electronic system early: the plate is stored and there is nothing to stick on. Keep the confirmation all the same.

National cover or a single county

Alongside the national periods there are county vignettes valid in one county only. For a run towards Romania, Serbia or Croatia the national vignette is the simpler choice — a county vignette stops being valid at the county boundary.

Vehicle categories

Classification follows the vehicle type and the number of seats; motorcycles and vehicles with trailers fall into categories of their own. Check the category before ordering — a vignette in the wrong category counts as no vignette at all.

Enforcement and periods

Cameras read plates automatically, and a penalty that is not settled on time increases. The periods we arrange are listed on the Hungary country page — a straight crossing is usually covered by the 10-day vignette.
